Richard Jarvis, former general chairperson of the New England Lines, has died. He was 85.
He was a member of Local 254, Fitchburg, Mass. He joined UTU predecessor Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen in 1946.
Jarvis hired out on the Boston & Albany Railroad and also worked on the New York Central. He served as a local chairperson, vice general chairperson, and was elected general chairperson in 1974. He retired in 1985.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra Council; a member and past president of the Greendale Retired Men's Club, and past president of the Laymen's Retreat Lounge.
