PHILADELPHIA -- Service is being restored on Philadelphia's regional rail lines after a worker was stuck and killed on the tracks, the Associated Press reported.
Thursday's accident comes as riders flock to regional rail lines on the third day of a city transit strike.
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority spokesman Richard Maloney says the worker was hit on the tracks near the Melrose Park station around 8:35 a.m.
Three lines to the northern suburbs had to be shut down, stranding hundreds of riders. Maloney says service was restored by 11:30 a.m.
More than 5,000 members of SEPTA's largest union walked off the job Tuesday, halting subways, trolleys and buses.
Regional rail lines are running because their workers are represented by a different union.
