Third party logistics provider Nexus Distribution said it has officially opened its Chicago Land Bridge, a private roadway linking a metro-Chicago CSX intermodal facility to a Nexus distribution center, according to this report published by The Journal of Commerce Online.
The $1 million, half-mile roadway is designed to help facilitate movement of international shipments to Midwest destinations. Nexus noted that the roadway can accommodate overweight containers barred from U.S. public highways, bypassing de-consolidation, for storage, transload, further consolidation or delivery from Nexus's Chicago container freight station.
The project was co-developed with CenterPoint Properties, of Chicago, and its Australian joint venture partner, James Fielding US Industrial Trust, with Lee and Associates Commercial Real Estate Services.
Nexus Distribution is based in Itasca, Ill., and operates distribution centers in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast.
