Amtrak Florida service suspension continues
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Amtrak and CSX Transportation, which owns the most of tracks used by Amtrak in Florida, are still assessing damage to the rail infrastructure and facilities due to the landfall of Hurricane Jeanne and resulting high winds and heavy rains, according to this service bulletin issued by Amtrak.

Therefore, passenger train service to and from Florida continues to be temporarily suspended.

Other Amtrak service to points south of Washington continues to operate, subject to delays in areas where Jeanne continues to cause weather-related problems.

Amtrak is notifying customers of the following:

Silver Star, Trains 91 & 92, and Silver Meteor, Trains 97 & 98, daily New York-Miami, via Orlando:

The southbound Silver Star (Train 91) and Silver Meteor (Train 97) that were scheduled to leave New York City tomorrow and the northbound Silver Star (Train 92) and Silver Meteor (Train 98) that were scheduled to leave Miami are all canceled tomorrow (Sept. 28).

No alternate transportation will be available.

Palmetto, Trains 89 & 90, daily New York-Miami, via Tampa:

The southbound Palmetto (Train 89) that was scheduled to leave New York City and the northbound Palmetto (Train 90) that was scheduled to leave Miami are both canceled tomorrow (Sept. 28).

No alternate transportation will be available.

Auto Train, Trains 52 & 53, daily Lorton (Va.)-Sanford (Fla.):

The southbound Auto Train (Train 53) that was scheduled to leave Lorton and the northbound Auto Train (Train 53) that was scheduled to leave Sanford are both canceled tomorrow (Sept. 28).

No alternate transportation will be available.

All staffed Amtrak stations in Florida and stations to the north on these affected routes up to Charlotte and Fayetteville, North Carolina, are closed until plans are announced to resume service.

These plans are subject to change, as conditions dictate. Amtrak passengers are invited to visit the www.amtrak.com website or call 800-USA-RAIL for additional information and further updates.

(The preceding service bulletin was issued by Amtrak on Monday, Sept. 27, 2004.)
