Miami-Dade transit panel seeks members
MIAMI -- Miami-Dade County is accepting applications for membership on the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust, the body that oversees spending of the county's half-percent transportation surtax funds, according to this report published by the Miami Herald.

The trust, which was created when voters approved the surtax in November 2002, ensures that the money is spent according to the People's Transportation Plan, which calls for better roads, expansion of the Metrorail and bus system and other transportation improvements.

The trust reviews contracts approved by the County Commission and considers amendments to the plan.

Open seats are in County Commission Districts 8 and 13, but applications are also being accepted countywide for possible future vacancies and will be kept on file for up to two years. Members serve staggered two-, three- and four-year terms on an unpaid volunteer basis.

Application forms are available by calling 305-375-3481 or going to the website Trafficrelief.com. The deadline for sending applications is 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6. They should be mailed or hand-delivered to Miami-Dade County Clerk of the Board, Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW First St., Suit 17-202, Miami, FL, 33128.

(The preceding report was published by the Miami Herald on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004.)
