VIA Rail notes sizzling savings
MONTREAL -- VIA Rail Canada said it is trimming 5% on its Windsor-Québec City Corridor fares when passengers book through its hugely popular http://www.viarail.ca website.

The web promotion is available on all bookings made before Dec. 1, 2003, for travel between Nov. 1, 2003 and Jan. 4, 2004, VIA Rail said.

Further savings are available for passengers traveling between Montreal and Halifax on the Ocean and between Montreal and The Gaspé on the Chaleur. Until Nov. 30, 2003, VIA offers a 50% discount on its Easterly and Comfort classes for trips taken between Nov. 3 to Dec. 19, 2003, and from Jan. 4 to Feb. 29, 2004. Tickets must be purchased at least 5 days in advance and other restriction may apply, the passenger carrier said.

Travelers who want more information or wish to make a reservation can contact their travel agent or call VIA at 1-888-VIA-RAIL.

VIA Rail Canada is the national passenger rail service, connecting some 450 communities from coast to coast. Demand for VIA's rapid intercity services in the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor has grown dramatically in recent years, the carrier said, as more Canadians turn to train travel as a hassle-free and cost-efficient alternative to congested roads and airports.
