UTU secures 173 cosponsors for H.R. 3091

WASHINGTON -- As of today, the United Transportation Union (UTU) has secured 173 co-sponsors for a bill to allow train crew members to have guaranteed time off.

H.R. 3091, also called the LaTourette Bill, is being supported by rail labor as a means to help solve the work/rest issues plaguing the railroad industry. UTU is spearheading the drive to pass the bill in the wake of Burlington Northern Santa Fe's onerous "Availability Policy."

BNSF was the only major railroad to break its word on accepting the Work/Rest Guidelines/Principles agreed to at the National Wage Rules Panel last spring.
