Release of proposed contract to UTU members
contingent on approval of questions and answers

CLEVELAND -- Members who believe they have examined the proposed national rail contract announced by the UTU and the National Carriers’ Conference Committee (NCCC) are being reminded that the document has not yet been released by either party for consideration by the membership, and are cautioned that the content of some versions being circulated is questionable and may be deliberately misleading.

For the record, UTU general chairpersons have submitted their questions regarding the proper interpretation of the proposed national wage and rule settlement to the UTU National Negotiating Committee, and the panel members have answered those questions, according to their understanding of the pending agreement.

Those questions have also been submitted to the carriers for their review, and it is anticipated the carriers will respond with their answers during the week of November 20.

The UTU Negotiating Committee will review the carriers’ answers, and hope to come to an agreement with them shortly thereafter. If not, the UTU will work to continue to ensure the spirit and intent of the negotiations are maintained.

Until the UTU and the NCCC have reached an agreement on the questions and answers, a definite schedule for release of the final document to the membership and for voting cannot be determined.

The UTU will keep its members advised, and encourage them to continue to check our website for the latest developments.
