"When will I see the proposed national rail agreement?"

UTU members covered by the terms and conditions of the proposed national agreement should note they will receive a copy of the proposed national rail contract after UTU general chairpersons' questions about its implementation have been answered.

Article 91 of the UTU Constitution gives our general chairpersons 15 days to formulate such questions. The list of questions is then given to the UTU National Negotiating Team, which confers with the National Carriers' Conference Committee negotiators to establish the answers for application to the contract.

Those questions and answers then become a part of the proposed agreement, completing the document pursuant to Article 91 of the UTU Constitution. Following that process, the proposed agreement will be distributed to the membership for ratification.

By waiting for the precise clarifications that result from this process, members will be able to approach the ratification process armed with the facts.

Members should note that the document is not complete until these questions have been answered, and are cautioned to avoid drawing conclusions from rumors and misinterpretations of the agreement's provisions.
