RETIREMENT BILL PASSES HOUSE COMMITTEE

Washington (July 19) - The Transportation Infrastructure Committee voted today in favor of H.R. 4844 - the Railroad Retirement Bill - by a vote of 62-1.  The bill is now under consideration by the House Ways and Means Committee and a vote is expected possibly later today, said UTU National Legislative Director James M. Brunkenhoefer.

If approved by the Ways and Means Committee, a vote by the full House could be held before the August recess, which will be no later than Friday, July 28.

The UTU encourages all members and their families to continue to contact their legislators to voice their support for this legislation.

The vote came over the "strong objections" of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and "without the support" of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
